leak detection, what dye to use??

ive got a small leak in an old building im not sure where it is coming from. several pipes run through the slab and the wall in the general area and its above a bathroom. so could be any of those 2-3 places.
im thinking of flooding the shower with https://tintex.com.au/product/drain-dye-fluorescein/ and blocking the drain and leaving it for several hours at least to see if it will soak through the slab and can identify with a UV light below to rule out or in the shower recess as the issue.
what ya reckon??

Worth a try I guess

Only one time I needed to use dye I bought it from a plumbing supplies.
Have heard of people using food dye but cannot give any info having never used myself.

neighbours recently had a retired plumber with specialist leak detection gear find theirs.
took 15 mins
charged them $495.

reason why i wanna do it myself as mine will be more than 15 minutes to find it i think.

neighbours thought the same after they could not find it.

this, someone people seem to conflate time on a job = value for money.


a good locksmith should be in your house/car in a a minute or two. But its because you're paying for his KNOWLEDGE not his time. sometimes its just easier and quicker to have the professionals do it.
