Any Recommendations for A Food Safe Finish Material for Plywood Pizza Board

Hello everyone,
Hope all of youu are doing well. I have a question. I looked for on forum but ı didnt find exact answer.


I have UV printed plywood pizza serving board. I need to apply a finish to protect UV printed design from damages of knife,fork, etc.. It should also cover UV-printing to make the board food safe. Lastly, finish should not make the the board too matte. The printing should be seen clearly.


Considering these criterias, could you recommend me a food safe finish material ?

Thank you. I searhed the oil brand you recommended. It seems perfect. Unfortunately, it is not available in the country I'm currently located in.

Could you recommend alternatives such as teak oil and linseed oil? I mention these because they are a bit more well-known and have a higher likelihood of being readily available.

linseed oil and Tung oil will take weeks to harden as pure oils, those with driers to accelerate curing probably aren’t food safe.

The best thing would be food grade epoxy approved by the FDA.

Baby Oil should be light liquid paraffin which is OK but it must be unperfumed

Weeks :/ so I cannot use these oils included additonal chemicals. Food grade epoxy seems what I'm looking for exactly. Thanks a lot !

Baby oil AKA liquid paraffin oil won't do the job you want, it will not cure, will not provide a barrier to mechanical damage.

Nothing will protect against knife cuts for any length of time.

I've used Kustom Grit Step#1 50000 grit food grade paste, developed and made in Australia.
The bloke in Brisbane who developed actually put some on his pizza and ate it.

thats in its self is not a credential.

I can't actually seem to find a proper MSDS for the stuff... nor anything to actually give any kind of certification that its food safe other then the advertising blurb saying "its as food safe as possible"

large mobs like osmo polyx obviously paid for the european version food safety testing to happen and have a certificate to say its ok.

I did read that and found it to be pretty dam generic, could just be the nature of the product though.


dunno something just spouting "its food safe" on a website with out giving any kind of ingredients list just doesn't sit right with me. I think odies oil has a similar thing, the owner doesn't want his 11 herbs and spices getting listed so he doesn't actually get any kind of food safe certification though it does spout "food safe" on the website though. I do use odies oil quite a bit so i'm not having a stab at the product but ANYONE can just write food safe in their product description.... proving that it is/isn't is the harder part
