recoating a faded slate look pattern pave concrete driveway

Would appreciate any advice regarding restoring a slate look pattern paved driveway.

I am in Adelaide.We had it done about 18 years ago and hasnt been recoated since then. I would have a go myself but it has a two tone effect so a bit tricky.

Is the 2 tone effect in the concrete or the sealer? I'd suggest its just in the concrete with a clear coat sealer as its not possible any sealer will coat your concrete multi colors.....an bit like sending in the new apprentice into the paint shop buy a can of striped paint!! :) Photo's would be good to assess.


If its just a sealer, then the process I've used is:

1. a very good pressure wash of the area and make sure its fully dry before proceeding with the sealer. In the past, I've usually done this in the summer early morning so by mid morning its fully dry.
2. Ive used New Sealer Nutech Pave coat PaveCoat | Nutech Paint for various jobs and recoats over the last 20 years and will use it again to do my concrete path around the entire house. Performs really well with good adhesion and wear characteristics. Its a solvent based product which in my opinion outperforms any water based product. The first coat is thinned down 10% (from memory) with thinners and second coat applied undiluted 2 hours later. Buy yourself a rectangle bucket big enough to dip your roller or broom into.
3. Apply the sealer.

• For the first coat, I thin it down 10 to 20%
• Now I've only done flat surfaces and what works really well is a paint roller on a pole as the soft broom method can flick the product onto areas you don't want....and perhaps its all in the technique as if you dragged the broom across areas close to walls etc, it would probably be fine.

Its an easy job to do if you simply prepare the surface right, have the necessary basic application tools as described and time the correct weather.

I have done the same as above. I used a paint tray for my roller but it needed filling up regularly - the square bucket is a good idea.

Will try to send some photos over the weekend as I think the concrete colour may have faded too much to just apply a clear coat.

You might be pleasantly surprised once it is pressure washed and a clear coat is put on a small test section.

The only other option is a single colour all over.
