got a bedroom 3m x 3m, looking at getting rid of oyster light that is a single light on the gryrock ceiling as pictured, thinking about replacing with 2 downlights in the positions marked.
what you think of the position of these lights? they look ok or somewhere else?? 2 enough?
We recently swapped out our old fan for a DC fan with a LED light and it throws out a lot of light and is dimmable. I would do that and delete any other lights apart from two bedside lights if you like, which could be wall mounted or a simple bedside lamp. I dislike having lights and fans in a small room because somewhere in the room you will get strobing if the fan is on. We got our DC fan from Beacon, it was a Nautica model.
Downlights are imo crappy in general
Directly over a bed? You'll be staring up at them - won't be used.
Lighting that isn't directly into eyes is much better. Reflected light off walls and ceilings is good.
We only have a ceiling fan with light and bedside lamps in all bedrooms.
Agree that if there is a fan, the light should not shine through the blades

If I understand correctly what's proposed, they'll have to be used because the oyster light is going, but standard downlights will blind whoever is lying on their back in the beds.Quote:

The typical layout from a lighting consultant for a room of that size is 4 downlights, I would place them as you have but add another two in the same locations at the entry and robe corners.
It is not just about adequate light ( which you probably don’t have for your robe with your proposal) but the room also needs to feel balanced.
I would also put a dimmer on them
had a look online at a numbers calculator for the number i needed and it said i needed 30 in the bedroom. fark, may as well put in a skylight the size of the entire ceiling.
dont know what planet that website is from looking at it now i may go with 4 x 7w downlights in the bedrooms.
I don't think they're legal any more, but with the right sort of that many lights you'd be close to renting out the two beds as tanning beds. That has to be the ultimate passive income. :UQuote:

Our bedroom is 4mx4m and we have 4/10wattx785 lumen downlights approx 1m in from each corner of the room.
We have them set to white light and it is like daylight which to us is perfect.
The 2nd bedroom is same and 3rd bedroom is 3mx4m and has 2 which is also perfect

At our age lots of light is important.
We don't read in bed and the light above us does not bother us at all.

I recently installed two pendant lights for my wife to replace her two bedside lights. Looks and works good :)
