Where to get 4.2m decking board ripped

Hi

Just wondering where could I take a 4.2m decking board ripped say 30mm wide?

I’m not confident to DIY to a good standard.

A good timber yard that still has a sawbench should be able to sort it for you.
Melbourne is a big place, pretty sure you don’t want suggestions 2 plus hours drive for a 10 minute job.

A circular saw might work out for you.

Put a pencil line all the way along the board, clamp up the board (on saw horses or something), and go nice and steady. When you need to shift the board just stop pushing the saw and let it spin to a stop and leave it in place. Shift the board along a bit, reclamp, and try to make sure the saw is in the best spot (ie. the blade turns freely) and on the line when switching on again.

So, it doesn't come out perfectly because when did it it wobbled a bit here and there. I cut some decking boards like that once and I was surprised just how well it worked out.

Using the fence that most likely came with your circular saw is a great way to ensure you stay straight. Cut from the side that you want to keep so you can ensure the size is correct. I have been known to add a long strip of straight hardwood to said fence as out of the box they seem too short.

Gotta DIY that mate :)

Methods as above. Then 5mm round-over bit to finish top edge, to match the opposite edge.

I’ll give it a crack myself, the issue is that it will probably look like a DIY job (and not a good one at that!)

You might be surprised. Take your time. Set it up carefully, get comfortable, don't hold your breath, relax, and don't push yourself. My first came out better than expected and all I was doing was following a line I'd drawn.
