Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can help. We are moving out of our rented premises this weekend and there is timber flooring which has been weathered near a door, plus surface scratches from a pet. What is the most inexpensive way to disguise or fix. It doesnt have a varnish, it looks like it has either been waxed or oiled (pretty bad job at that.

If it helps, a landlord once tried to sting us for scratches and wear on a timber floor which had been polished more than a year earlier. I told them that it was reasonable wear and tear and that they couldn't expect the place to be in pristine condition after it had been lived in. Wear and tear should be covered by the rent not the bond.
Any R/E agents around today? ;)
Thank you for your reply. Well yes I guess we have been here for nearly 16 months. I guess the thing is we were not really supposed to have pets inside and it is quite obvious what the scratches are. Thanks anyway;)
SilentC is very correct, but I can also appreciate your situation and that you'd like to make sure you get all your bond back.
The floor - the best way is to lightly sand and recoat. However, you'd need to recoat in the same or close to the same finish it was done in. Unless you are able to find this out, I personally would not attempt this. In all honesty, you may be better to own up and discuss it with the agent/owner to come to an mutual agreement. My suggestion - your decision.

And perhaps next time, respect the fact that you are living in somebody else's house and not have pets if they don't want you to. :mad:
