Help to save my woodworking

Hi everyone,

We just bought a flat with bathroom sink that you'll see on the attachment. I know it looks discusting and needs fixing pretty quickly, which is what SWMBO thinks anyway. She made sure that untill I fix this problem, I am not allowed to do my woodworking. As we'll be renovating at some stage, which is not in the near future due to the morgage, I need something within reasonable limits. I did shoping around and realised that the dimensions are custom made when the building was built. Getting it custom made will be pretty costly. What would be the alternative? Is there anyone I can tlak to in inner Sydney area?

Sam,

just get a smaller unit from bunnies, all you need is neat and clean I assume. the piping is easy - just use felxi tubing, also available from plumbing section of bunnies.

just rawl plug it to the wall and its fixed. alternatively you can go to a recyling yard somehwere and you may find a complete unit of size that fits with taps etc already installed.

Thanks for the reply Zed. I wish I could get away with a smaller unit. It is currently installed in between the bath and the wall. If I remove it it will be a total mess. That is way I wanted to change the top. I'll have a look at the second hand yards as well.

Sam,

Have a look underneath the top or the insides of the cabinet. They may have left behind some identity.

Mind you those types of top are often custom made anyway and aren't that expensive.

Your other choice is to find a surface mount sink of a size that you can cut a hole in the existing top to fit it.

Or you could paint it with a 2 pack epoxy paint.

If the top itself is OK you could cut the basin section out, including the tap holes, and drop a porcelain basin in. I'm not sure how you would cut the top. Try a jigsaw?
