Advice for clear coat - total noob
Seeking advice re finishes for an outdoor rocking horse we have made for my daughter. My father, husband and I have built a rocking horse (unicorn actually) and we are kind of stuck as to finishing it, being our first real woodworking project. I'd like advice on a clear top coat that is UV stable and won't turn our lovely white unicorn yellow and will preserve the coloured details underneath. It is made of pine and some areas filled with builders bog. We are going to apply two coats of bullseye 123 primer. Sand, then apply a flat white exterior paint (just regular house paint). I am going to paint coloured details like the mane and tail and decorative flowers in waterbased acrylic craft paints. I've searched the threads but most advice applies to preserving woodgrain and natual wood colours. Can anyone recommend a suitable clear top coat that will protect the coloured acrylic and resist yelllowing (the unicorn will live outdoors under a shady tree). Thank you for any help you can give.
