Ventilation advice needed

Hi,

I have a store room under our place that we can access via the garage. My problem is that it can occassionally get a damp smell in there and there isn't a lot of ventilation in the room.

From what I can see I have only 2 options for ventilation:

1. Remove some bricks from a non-weight bearing wall and put some vents in to replace them.

2. Put a vent in the bottom of the door to the store room.

Does anyone have any advice about how best to ventilate store rooms or have an idea of the approximate cost of both options?

hmmm, does it have any other ventilation in the room?
If so, I would place a fan in a wall blowing into the room rather then sucking it out.
If it only has the entrance door then you would need too place an exit for the air on another wall

Just an idea, can you instead of putting just a vent in the wall put a "Whirly-bird" in the wall, all that would be needed is a small amout of ducting and a 90 degree bend. It may sit out from the wall a little but can be painted and a plant a few meters away to hide it. Costs nothing to run, ventilates 24/7, weather proof, quiet and needs only the slightest breeze to operate. Just an idea!...Cost is about $160.:)

Unfortunately the only other ventilation in to the room is via the common gym which isn't used very often and doesnt have any ventilation either. One wall of the store room connects to the gym, while the other 2 are underground due to the slope on the block.

It seems as though the only options I have are to have vents on the wall common to our garage or request the body corporate install some ventilation in the gym to help with my problem.

Am I right in saying that improved ventilation helps with any problems the store room and gym have had in the past with dampness/moisture?

Well it can't hurt, the more you have, the dryer it will become, but how much you need is another story.

are you sure it isnt gym socks youre smelling?
