A cutting remark

Can't remember where I got this so apologies if it's been posted before.

An old bloke goes into his local barbers and while he's sitting in the chair, the barber (a miserable sod) asks him if he's going anywhere for his holidays. "Yes," says the old bloke. "We're planning a holiday to Rome."
"What d'you want to go there for?" the barber asks and the old feller tells him that he and his missus are keen to try the food.
"Huh!" says the barber. "It's all McDonald's and Subway over there now. You'd get a better Italian meal at Luigi's down the road."
"Oh dear!:" says the old feller. "Well we're also keen on seeing the Roman architecture."
"Don't make me laugh," says the barber. "Last time I was there everywhere was covered in scaffolding and sheet iron while they renovated the buildings. You won't see a thing."
The old bloke looks disappointed but then perks up. "At least there's the weather! It'll be nice to get a bit of sun!"
"Sun!" the barber snorts. "When I was there it rained solid for two weeks!"
"Well," says the old bloke, "there is one more thing. We do want to see the Pope one time before we're too old to travel."
"See the Pope!!" laughs the barber. "Look mate, you'll be in St.Peter's Square with about 30,000 other people. You'll be lucky if you see the top of his head!"
The old feller is really downcast but tells the barber that they'll have to go as it's all paid for and non-refundable and he trudges off back home.

A month passes and the old feller turns up again at the barber's looking tanned and healthy. "How was the holiday?" asks the barber with a sneer.
"Brilliant!" exclaims the old chap. "The food was exquisite! All those great pasta dishes!"
"Huh" says the barber. "What about the architecture?"
"Marvelous!" says the old feller. "The Colosseum and the Basilica had been renovated and looked very much like they must have looked when first built and you can see from the tan that the weather was beautiful."
"What about the Pope?" asks the barber.
"Well says the old man. "You were spot on there. We got into St.Peter's Square and the crowd was huge! When the Pope eventually came out onto the balcony to bless the crowd, I could just about see him if I stood on tiptoe."
"Told you," says the barber.
"Yes," says the old bloke. "But then an amazing thing happened! As His Holiness was giving his blessing and looking around over the crowd, he looked straight at me and stopped and stared! The he turned to one of his Cardinals next to him and next thing they disappeared back into the Vatican. A few minutes later, the main doors to the Vatican opened and out came His Holiness surrounded by the Swiss Guard. The Guard pushed back the crowd and made a path straight towards me! His Holiness walked right up to me and stared right into my eyes and said,
"Who the bloody hell cut your hair!?"
