1976 VW Camper genuine 'Westfalia' conversion - $value?

Any of you weekend wood warriors have any idea what this would sell for in the big cities? I saw it on the side of the road, and had to look as I drove a similar one around Europe for 4 years, and loved it.
It is interesting:
Totally original - even the carpet
Westfalia conversion (factory) which features 2 full width double beds, fridge, stove,storage etc
Has original free standing awning (these seem to be worth $1000) which sleeps about 4
Interior is mint
Exterior appears to be untouched, with the odd wee ding
Done 109,000 miles, but the 2.0l engine has been reconditioned about 10,000 miles ago, and is sweet
Drives really well
Best if all, I reckon I could get it for under $3k

Any thoughts?

Any registerable vehicle which can be bought for less than $3k is worth it, there's no downside!

A piece of memorablilia like that: well they should be thankful it's going to someone who appreciates it!

I had a 71/72 Westfalia for about 8yrs, although a non-standard 1700 fastback engine was fitted (bombed with US extractors, twin Webers, big valves etc:eek: ) and wish I'd never parted with it!:( I still keep a nostalgic eye in the paper for them, and a VW campervan of even that vintage will be at least $4000. Go for it, sounds a bargain, but IMHO...obviously tempered by my experience with modified item...be prepared for heavy maintenance.

Well, 1/2 mine - I had flagged this idea intil an old mate called on Saturday from sydney. We had gone halves in a Kombi in the UK on the big Europe trip in 1987. His idea - why not do it again? I thought he must've been drunk but no - keen as mustard. We certainly had heaps of good times in the old bus, and sharing costs makes the pain of repairs easier.
I called the owner the next day - someone had first option, and was coming around with the readies in the am. Ah well, I thought , Karma. I drove past the house on Monday pm, and was surprised at the depth of my reaction when the old thing wasn't there. Gutted. I pulled over and called to check - no, the lady hadn't yet showed! Had to wait until 7:30 that night to find that now I had first option. Gave it the once over the next afternoon, and all I could find wrong with it was a worn tyre and a tiny exhaust leak.
The kids think that it is fabulous, and play for hours in it. Me too! My mate will get to use it several times a year, and it is the first thing that has animated him (apart from his work) for ages. Everyone happy all round. We've even stayed the night, after the company chrissie do. $19 for a campsite instead of $90 for a room.;) Wonderful old classic. Tuned it up on Sat, and runs very sweetly.
