Silky oak drawers recovery and repair

Last lot of silky oak drawers no one liked but when they were done they were claimed by 2 family members.
This is a light wait frame with ply wood. The drawer front have that nice rich red silky oak I prefer.
I have started scrapping the brown stuff off and then on with the ROS using 120 grit.
I'm thinking of some citrus stripper for the ply wood. If I mess it up then coloured paint ;)
The hard part is adding wood to the front damaged drawer.
Only the large drawers will need some material to replace the bottom sliding surface.

Decided to start painting with water based satin clear to protect what I had started.
I started some scraping of the top ply wood and realised I was succeeding.
Next was the ROS with 120 grit followed by some metholated spirits to lift any fine wood hairs.
Then sanded again with 240 grit.
Finally I painted with some satin clear. This will get a very fine rub tomorrow before more layers are applied.
This is the best I have ever done with ply but the sides will be a challenge.

Just love silky oak, looks great. Good recovery, look forward to seeing completed project.

Thank you. Started the hunt for suitable handles. The little bit left of the old ones actually match the kitchen cupboard I'm working on at the same time so they will go to it.

Gave the top and drawers a 3rd coat. I try to run fine grit sand paper over each coat to ensure it's smooth.
Packing up for the week so the drawers are in until I'm ready to cut new runners and then install the handles.
I'm liking the original dark brown accentuating the silky oak and I may actually go brown on the rest.
This to me is like setting the picture frame of the silky oak faces.
A board has to go on the top back as well so that needs to be either nice silky oak or just a dark brown piece of pine.

I have to same design small ones needing a lot of work and I may look at doing them next to build a set.
I have got plenty of silky oak bed heads to match and a chair with the same rounded style.
Throw in a bevelled mirror and it could be a set for some one.

Pulled out another smaller set of drawers of the same design to finish off and put together as a set. There is space underneath that show legs were attached before. I think it will be cool to get a whole setup together in a single photo.

Took the time to strip the drawer frame but think I haven't succeeded with the corners.
A first layer of water based clear satin.
