Wood Heater - would you advise council?

Hi Woodies,

So I am in a new house completed 6 months ago. Its getting cold here, so I ordered an Australian Standard wood heater and have a liscenced contractor to install it.

Spoke to council who have informed me I must submit a plan and pay a fee. :no:

Feels a bit of a rip to me.

Considering not advising council. (I live rural)

What do others think?

Personally I would, for 2 main reasons; they can most likely order you to pull it out plus fine you.
Also, if your house insurance company finds out you probably wont be covered.
I built a house in 1984 and kept the local council informed of all compulsory items.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Here in Vic some councils have sneaky ways of keeping tabs on illegal installs, EG: smoke where it shouldn't be.

A new heater in a new house. I'd be doing it all by the book.
In my Experience, the longest distance between 2 points is a shortcut.

I would have thought it would have been in the original building application

I have a gas spigot and was leaning that way. Now its getting cooler a wood fire would be preferable, the feel of a wood fire is my preference now. Plus gives me something to do around the house, getting wood etc. :)
