I Hate PAINTING

OK! here is the problem, I have recently added a room onto the back of the house, (enclosed covered area) with bricks and mortar and aluminium windows. The brickie bagged off the walls, that's fine paint wise, the existing external wall is the problem, is there an easier way of painting brick walls. So far I've done 1.2 x 1.8 and it's killing me (back prob's), I've shortened the bristle on a brush this allows me to get into the mortar lines a bit better then roller over the face of the bricks. I have been told by SWMBO I'm not allowed to spray paint as I'll make a mess. I reckon I won't but if I'm wrong I'm a "deadman walking", is there a knack to painting brickwork or is this as good as it gets? Open for suggestions even silly sounding ones could lead to a better way, (short of throwing the paint Pro Hart style onto the wall).

WHat about one of those pressurised rollers that pump the paint to the roller? Still would have trouble getting into the mortor lines unless you had a special small roller?

If you mask and drop sheet everything you should be alright to spray with acrylic. If you are using a roller, use one with a long nap and make sure you load it with plenty of product. Use a brush to finish up those bits of mortar the roller doesn't get straight after rolling. I guess it depends how the joints are pointed as to how easy it will be.

Might make a mess but at least you didn't spray :D

If you are worried about overspray, why not hire an airless spraygun. It will do the job in no time with no overspray.

A painter mate and I did the footy club rooms earlier in the year and he used the long nap roller loaded with paint as mic-d suggested. I followed along behind with a normal 75mm brush again loaded with paint. Once you have good coverage on an area and the brush is less full, go back and get any excess so you don't get any runs although up here it goes off pretty quick and it's not too hard to do.

There is a much easier solution to problem. Get someone else to do it!!! Must be plenty of "toshers" about. Toshing by the way is slang for slapping a lot of paint on a wall.

If "SHE" won't let you spray then hand the flamin' woman the bloody brush and tell her to do it herbloodyself!

An alternative spray idea, what about using a garden sprayer (the 5 or 7 litre type) following along behind with the roller. May be an easier way to tosh it (Stubchain :D ) with minimal overspray if you don't pump it up too much.

Does anyone in the family know any would-be graffiti artists? You could offer them the wall to paint on, on the understanding that you have the final say on design.

Leave it a few months and then paint over. It's a lot easier to repaint a brick wall than to apply the initial coat.

some very interesting ideas as I expected there would be. I thought about the "airless gun" and will have a look at Bunnies, I'm sure they have them, can't remember the name of the one I'll look for, they have been around for ages.
Throwing the paint at the wall, I don't think so!..saving that one for when I really get the p00's!...Ha!hHa!
Garden sprayer!....Hmmm!..thin the paint just a tad and that might work, I have 2 types of sprayers 1 pressure type the other is a bicycle pump type the pick-up hose drops into the can and pump is in the handle. Sounds dumb enough to actually work, I will try that one, If it fails, of to Bunnies.
