Painting MDF Trouble

Hi Everyone,

Having a small issue in “our creative zone”
I’m trying to spray paint some MDF letters that I brought from the big green shed.

I used some primer first , then hit it with some top coat (pink) Acrylic spray paint ( White Night )
As you see by the pic, the pink paint has taken to the top face of the pink letters , but not actually taken on the side of the letters.

It looks like the paint has just been sucked into the MDF when I was spraying them .https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...17b59e8357.jpg

Correct. One needs to seal the sides of MDF before painting.

Panic not, all can be solved.

In the second link, I talk of "car bog". This is a filler used by panel repair guys and works the absolute best. Next best is Gyprock (dry wall) filling plaster. The extra smooth finishing one in the red tin is the best. Does a great job.

Ask any more quesitons. Many here can help :)

Paint the edges with PVA glue, let dry, spray away :2tsup:

Ah! Sally, simplicities controller!

Didnt even look at the name. On the MDF, for scrolling, many use Mod Podge (I havent, though Ive a pot), a mix of woodglue and water (sizing), or simply a few coats of undercoat with a brush first.

They use nail files to sand edges, or make their own by sticking sandpaper strips to paddle pop sticks, a dremel with a fine drum attachment, or buy these "sandpaper files"....

To hold dremels better for this kind of work: Buy Products Online from China Wholesalers at Aliexpress.com

These are easy to make yourself.

MDF edges will act like a sponge, you might want to try a double layer of primer just to be sure
