Hello!
I'm an anglophile with a definite bias toward all persons, like myself, whose ancestors dwelt on the blessed plot . . . AHH! So I've chosen this particular forum to seek counsel and camaraderie as I embark on exercising (better late than never!) my wheelwright's and cabinet maker's genes.
Seriously, looking forward to exchanging messages with all you good folks, from every corner of our planet, here on Woodwork Forums.

Firstly welcome.
Just a heads up that like the USA, many Australian's and lots of folks on this forum may not have much anglophile sympathy. Even many Australians with anglo connections i(usually in the distant past) may have less than what you might consider anglophilic tendencies especially when it comes to sport. England is probably even the greatest enemy when it comes to cricket and rugby.
The fact that the majority of Aussies did not vote for a republic in the republic referendum is IMHO more of a reflection of the lack of a clear alternative than anything else.

Hello BobL,
I don't know how avid the Australians are for sport, but from reading some and quizzing an English ex-pat on the subject, I'd guess the Brits are more addicted than the Americans. Perhaps its because the games we have here are all outliers--American "football," baseball, and basketball. Personally, the only game I enjoy watching us Yanks play is golf, and we both know where that originated!
I'm sure there is a list of subjects to avoid here, so I'll just say that the United States must have dropped sadly in the estimation of the global community in recent years. :- I was just discussing with my husband whether Canada, or one of the southern European countries, might let us in if things don't turn around soon! :doh: I hadn't thought of Australia or New Zealand as a place to hide out! Right on--that could be a more valuable suggestion than how to get my anti-splinter insert sorted. ;-D

We don’t have a wall here, the oceans work better and if you dare to come by boat we lock you up for an indefinite amount of time to drive you crazy. It’s ok though if you fly.
We do get the odd visit from Liz and Phil the Greek. I last caught them in Canberra for the opening of the big house on the hill. Bob was running the joint then but he’s just carked it.
Ive visited and worked with a few American Woodies and they are so much more sharing and hospitable than a few of the English ex Royal College types I’ve had to work with here in Oz. They’ve all had a rather sad we’re here to show those colonial clods how it’s done attitude. Unfortunately we are so cringeworthy we don’t bounce them across the continent As was done to Krenov when he tried that stunt on the East Coast of the US of A.:;

Hi Sue, all funny reading. I was nearly thrown overboard from an Alaskan cruise ship recently when I tried to explain why Yanks can't understand Cricket. Well you have nominated the US, but which of the 50 states are you in.
