Excavation, retaining wall and lots of mulch (pics)

Hey all,

Just thought I would post up some pics of what I have been up to over the last month or so:

I had an area to the right hand side of my carport that was a raised above the driveway level. Many moons ago the previous owners had it as a vege patch but when I bought the property it was more like a 'dumping patch' full of builders refuge and weeds.

On the other side of the house is a very large area that was completely overgrown, I removed all the old trees myself but had the machinery in to clear that area of undergrowth and stumps as well. All the good fill from the carport side was relocated to this area just cleared on the left of the house to make a massive garden bed.

A before and after pic of the left side: 30 metres of rock edging and 15 cubic metres of mulch later..... next spring when my bank account recovers we will plant the area with a large pittostrium hedge etc etc:

Carport side:

As I said the fill was removed leaving a large area that I could now use for something useful like HEAPS of carparking or maybe a workshop ;) etc.
It was a bit of a saga with having to get the water metre and stopcock lowered and the excavator going right through the underground electrical mains.......:eek:

I used the C+M Allanblock retaining wall system, bloody heavy buggers when you have to lift and level 150 of them.

I have put a thin layer of road base down and compacted it and will lay decomposed granite down after the new year.

In the next couple of week I need to complete the fence as well (you can see the posts already in place.

Hi Joel

Looks a sheetload better mate. There is certainly room for a new shed there!

But stay away from pittosporums. Can't stand the things. Go for a native.

Thanks mate

SWMBO hates natives with a passion, there is simply no way ;). We still have a while to decide what to plant anyway, as with any project like this I forget to add the 33% extra you dont budget for LOL.
We already have it pretty formal with lots of boxhedge and camellia's etc, will put a pic up later if I remember.
