Can someone check the method for my application for tung oil onto veneer?

I have 0.6mm thick Brushbox veneer (Brush Box (Quarter-cut)) adhered onto MDF and I'd like to get a smooth matte finish (as close to looking like natural wood as possible). I considered using boiled linseed oil, but I prefer to not have the veneer change colour over time.

Proposed Method
1. Mix 50/50 turpentine and pure tung oil and brush it onto the veneer. Wipe off any excess oil. Leave for 1 hour
2. Mix in more pure tung oil into the diluted mixture until it's about 1:2 turpentine and tung oil. Brush, wipe off excess, then leave for 1 hour.
3. Brush on pure tung oil, wipe off excess, then leave for 24 hours.
4. Wipe off any excess oil with a dry rag/cloth and leave for 1 week to cure.

but I don't know if it's the same process for veneer.

It may be worthwhile to test on an offcut first as you don't want deep penetration otherwise you may be faced with delamination.

Is there any reason why you can't just use the Tung oil straight? Have you thought of sanding with High grit discs? (400-800g) Admittedly that will probably give you a semi gloss finish. I would think that using straight oil as a wipe on wipe off application should give you the look you want. But whatever, do as Angela says, test it on a scrap piece of veneer first!!

Yes, I definitely intend to experiment, but I wanted to know if there was any method that someone knows that works for veneer. I don't want to do much experimentation, but I'm happy to do a little to make sure what I'm doing is correct.

I'm honestly just going off the youtube video I linked. He says that it helps the tung oil penetrate, but I guess that's something I don't really want since my veneer is 0.6mm thick.

What about giving Organoil ( or a vendor of Tung Oil, I say Organoil because they produce their Tung Oil product in Australia) and ask them what they recommend for you?
