Golden Cypress - outdoor furniture finishing
Hi all,
Looking for some advise.
I have purchased rough sawn golden cypress pine to make some outdoor sun lounges.
I am using a thicknesser to dress the wood & then just finish with a light sand if needed, as i have had the wood cut to specific measurements.
I was hoping to get a "Jarrah look" and am trying to work out the best way to do this to get the best finish.
I read somewhere that to stop blockiness it is a great idea to first stain the wood with black tea.
This will raise the fibres and then you can give a light sand and then put say the jarrah stain on it and it should
help to give it a deeper color.
So my question what kind of stain (oil or water based) is best so that i get the Jarrah look?
What kind of oil or poly do i use and can anyone recommend brands etc..... can i get something that has the color in it?
I am planning on finishing the wood while it is in pieces and then putting the pieces together with just hopefully minor touch ups after.
Thanks in advance
Anna
