Pantry Door Switch installation

The pantry door switch in our kitchen has broken (the batten itself is broken). I cannot figure out how the switch is actually connected into the batten. See the attached pictures.

The switch seems to be a simple contact switch such as:

Can I buy a batten light which is designed to connect to such a switch? Or did our kitchen builder just modify a standard batten to add the switch - I cannot find anything similar online.

Note this just connects to a wall socket, it is not wired directly into the mains.

Even though the light is plugged into a "Socket Outlet" also known as a GPO remember you are dealing with 240v.

It looks like an off the shelf batten with a micro switch wired in. Now are you sure it is the batten that has gone faulty (perhaps the ballast) or the micro switch.
If you are not sure ask an electrician to do some test and if need be supply and fit a replacement.

Throw the fluoro away and put in strip of LEDs fed from a wall wart 12V power supply via a switch on the door. I haven't looked but you can probably buy something off the shelf.

Thanks Handyjack. The batten is physically broken. No idea how it happened, maybe the tube went and I broke the batten taking it out (the plastic is very brittle). I am 90% sure the micro switch is OK (can see it on my multimeter go from open to closed circuit when expected). I suspected it might just be a modified off the shelf batten rather than something specialised.

That unfortunately will almost certainly leave ugly holes in the cupboard - mostly where the current microswitch is. Although if I can incorporate the existing microswitch into a 12V light, it solves that and is legal. (The fluro is busted - it will be thrown away).

If you don't want to play with rewiring anything you could probably use a rechargeable motion sensor light such as https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-us...light_p7072164

I ended up doing this. Removed the supplied inline switch and wired it into the existing pantry switch. I need to have a go and tidying up the wiring a little, but works very well. The LED strip actually looks much better than I would have expected and is plenty bright enough.
