I have quite a few old picture frames in my garage and I would like to give them an aged look. The type of look I am after is where you see various layers of paint showing through at random areas (usually on corners and edges). Also looking at getting a crackle effect on a couple of the frames. I have seen youtube videos showing the use of both PVA and water soluble hide glue to get the crackle effect.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I've done a few of these.
The frame on the one below was made from MDF door architraves.
Painted first with several coats of off white, then a dark green top coat sanded back mainly on edges/highspots.
I've done a few crackles as well using something called crackle glaze - I don't like it as much as the sanded back method.
