Can anyone clarify if it is a possum(s) that have been doing their business on our weatherboards, or is it another pest that has done it?

+1 for birds, for me the key indicator is the down pipe. They probably roost at night and do their business. Possibly pigeons???
Perhaps do a night patrol before retiring and have a look. If birds then you will need to deny them the perch. There are commercial strips with wire spikes in a "V" formation which can often be seen on commercial buildings which seem to work pretty well. A possible DIY could be to run a few strands of high strength fishing line along the pipe, I suggest high strength because you would need to string it with high tension. Just a thought.

I have a few resident Possis in my shed. Yes they can make a mess but I can live with it. Remember back in the Vietnam War days.....we got up to date coverage of the fighting going on on the nightly TV news. Remember those images of B52s emptying their huge load of bombs out in a messy group?....well thats the same method possis do their dump. Huge amount and all at once. Firstly thanks to everyone who replied to my post:wink:. Secondly, fortunately I haven't had anymore poo dropped since the post - maybe we have fallen off their radar. I will paint the guttering in the next week or two then pop up to Bunnings and have a look at what items they have that are suitable to prevent it being a permanent toilet seat!!
