I'm officially over WOP

I had thought all the banter about Wipe on Poly was codswallop, but I am now officially over WOP and will revert back to spraying on a finish. After a small hiccup on my "Thank you box", I protected the lid top with some tape, but as I took the tape off a small section of finish came off with it. So not happy with it, I gave a light sand but there was still a small blemish on the lid, and so it went from excellent (cant see what all the fuss was about with WOP), to small blemish, to a bigger blemish to wipe marks (slowly seeing what people are talking about) to its ok but not perfect so i'll polish it out, to oops I didn't cut back enough, lets do I again to, lets use micromesh to this is getting worse, to this is f'g crazy what am I doing wrong to, what sh-t product this is, i'll never use this stuff again.

Now, I have sections that absorb finish, other areas not. so I will sand off the entre top back to bare wood and start again, and then once done i'll be turfing the rest of the WOP so i don't give myself the option to use, ever.

besides the warmer weather will help with spraying.

This box is absolutely doing my head in. i want it finished so badly.

What finish are you going to spray onto the box?

I will be using Cabots Polyurethene Gloss spray can. I was advised that due to the thinning chemicals in the spray can that it may wrinkle previous finishes, so I have sanded the entire box top back to bare wood so there is no residual WOP and will tape then tape off the rest of the box to prevent over spray.

Could you please post up some photos of the finished product. I too am/was a wop convert but lately have been having troubles.
Found three new unopened tins of the minwax product had gotten the yellow tinge. Most disappointing ��

I hear you. I used it once, got half way through and ended up brushing it on. went to use it again and the contents of the tin had congealed so it went in the bin. Never again.

Spray on Poly and Nitro are my best friends! Sand back lightly, coat, light sand, 3 more coats and cut and polish.... shines like the sun!!!

Given your volume of work output I imagine you use a proper spray outfit? May I ask what poly and nitro you use? WOP and I don't get on - I find it so much simpler to use UB hard shellac. I'd really like to move to spraying NC though.

I spray either in the back yard in a tent (a fold up 3x3 with mesh sides) or simply on a fold up plastic table. It is hardly ideal, but it is what I have.

My spray gear and mask is professional and I've a good high-CFM compressor, but I don't have a booth, which would be awesome, but later after Ive saved for a commercial premises.

Poly is Cabots Cabothane and Nitro is Wattyl Stylewood 95% gloss.

Ive been intending to move to Mirolac 3125/3130 and 3150 : MIROLAC NC Nitrocellulose Lacquers | MIROTONE

Its one of these with the removable sides: OZtrail Deluxe Gazebo 3x3

The sides are like fine flyscreen. It lets the fog dissipate readily and keeps out the pesky flying things :)

Its dead easy to put up and take down. This one is very tough, its survived fierce storms and protracted leaving-up.
