Notifications....Likes

Due to my warped sense of humour, I keep getting these, but not being rude rather curious what good are they apart from boosting ones ego, I mean they dont get me freebies, they dont allow free access to other sites, they dont get me admin position (whew thank gawd ) I haven't seen them on other forums, wow are we lucky...its just us eh.

just what is the point of them?

The main point I think is that it saves the "liker" from having to post "nice work" or "that's funny" etc. So for me, that means I can show my appreciation of many more posts than I would otherwise respond to. It also saves the subscribed threads from getting out of control (or having to unsubscribe) after posting an appreciative comment. That then saves the thread from being clogged up with lots of similar comments, when the appreciation can all be seen in one neat line.

For example, someone posts a pic of some finished work that I think is good - if I am subscribed to it I get a notification every time someone else thinks it's good too - and I'm not particularly interested in the subsequent "that's good" comments. If I just give it a like then I receive no more notifications. As I usually peruse the forum through "New Posts" and one for that thread comes up, I can choose if I want to have another look at the comments or not.

Wow you are a wise man, what an excellent idea, they thought up, these modern tech savvy people.I guess that answers my Q dont it.

And so, by way of self-fulfilling prophesy, you can see that 7 people agree with the interpretation without having to post (although kuffy did anyway).

Glad you feel justified and vindicated at writing such a clear and precise reply to my nonsesical jibberish question, when, truth to told if I had used my common sense (why start now :p) I could have worked out the answer myself.
