Mystery Bird - Help with identification
Q:What looks exactly like a female Satin Bowerbird, but doesn't have blue eyes?
A:THE BIRD THAT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY.
okok its not driving me crazy, not being able to figure out what it is, is driving me crazy.
Its very skittish so I haven't been able to get a good picture yet. Sorry for the dirty windows.
There are actually two. One is missing its left eye and the other I'm only certain I've seen twice. It comes in to the feeder, takes a look at the seed, maybe takes a bit, but mostly just looks around. I'm fairly certain its eyes are brown not sapphire blue and I think I heard it make a gravelly-hiss at a cheeky Rosella once. Its not very bold with the other birds.
Visual,:
Its too big and its tail too short compared to it's body for a little wattlebird, and it doesn't have the speckling on it's nape/wings for a spotted bowerbird.
From what I can remember: its flanks, belly, sides, breast, vent and femoral tract are all white/brown scalloped. I think its nape and mantle are a uniform khaki-olive brown. The median and greater coverts are an olive brown while the primary coverts and possibly primaries are russet. The bill seems a bit short for the body size and I don't remember any real flashes of colour.
It's a general olive, russet, wet sand brown kind of colour.
I didn't get a good look at its back between the wings or her tail.
Any suggestions?
If I get any more pics I'll post..... and i'll clean my windows :B
