Vertical pics won't upload vertical

I have never had problems in uploading vertical pictures until recently.

I usually just rotate them in Windows pic Viewer, and all is well.

I note that someone has suggested that this is a W10 problem, and that they have to be "saved" now after rotation, and I also note that a helluva lot of people are apparently having the same problem with vertical pics being uploaded as horizontal.

However, i also note that some Mac users are having the same problem (e.g. fletty in a recent post), so is this actually a W10 problem or something else?

What do you take the photos with?
I take mine with an iphone and they look great in Win 10 picture viewer but appear side on (rotated right) when uploaded to this forum. So, I rotate them to the right and save in Win picture viewer, then rotate them left ie. upright again and save them again, then upload them to the forum. A lot of work but it works for me.

All I can tell you is how I do it.

I get the file onto my computer (gonna assume you can get this far), then I right click > Open With > Paint.

Once open, use the commands in Paint to orient them properly. There is a very good chance they will already be correct (mine always are). Then just Save As. When you upload that file it's all good.

Another way to do it would be in Microsoft Office. It has a photo manipulation program built into most versions. I can't remember the name, but the icon is red. It's something like Microsoft Picture/Photo Editor. This program is way better because you can just do them as a batch and then use File > Save All.

Or really any other photo software aside from Preview, which is what it opens with by default on the double-click, will work. Just get it where you want it and save it.

Either way, all are cumbersome, and it's definitely a compatibility issue with Windows 10. I, for one, upload far fewer photos than I otherwise would since switching to Win 10.

Luke I should be able to do all that in Photoshop, but as you say it's just more mucking around. Mind you, most of my pics end up going through PS anyway for one reason or another (size, exposure, cropping yadda).

I previously used a Canon, and IIRC, I could rotate in the upload program before transfer to computer files.

the photo problem is possibly related to an auto rotate portrait photo "feature" in the iThingy or camera.

I find I need to process all photos I want to upload to reduce their size.
