Hi,
A question for our beloved benevolent dictator - would you recommend using your traditional wax over aussie oil on pens?
I really like aussie oil on pens, and I'm wondering if the wax would make a more easily renewed surface given the abuse pens receive from skin oil, bumps, etc.

I wear golf type shirts with no pocket and carry my pens in the centre front of the shirt between the buttons so most of the pen is against my skin. Its gotta be a tough finish to survive the body oils and sweat. Even the pen plate coatings have to be tough as well so I'll be interested to hear the answer as well. I do love an oil finish on most things but have been doing CA finishes on my pens as its the only finish I have found that can survive the torture.

I can't answer the specific question about the two products, but I know that, generally speaking, putting wax over an oil finish will achieve what you're wanting.

Yeah, I've been doing a few pens lately and do maybe 50/50 CA vs. some other finish. I like the feel of a wooden pen much more, but the durability of CA is a massive plus for pens.Quote:

To (partially) answer my own question - I've given this a try on a few pens - although admittedly used a waxstick for the first coat rather than traditional wax, in the hope that it'll survive longer.
They look good so far, but haven't really been used, so not sure if it'll fill my goal of being able to easily refresh it with a quick coat of wax is going to work still.
Quick update here - the pens I finished like this back in August seem to be holding up well. I haven't had any requests to redo the wax but it still seems like it should work in theory.
Apologies for resurrecting this, I don't venture into the finishing forum all that often, but I'm having a finishing problem and ran across my own thread.
