Do a search - you might learn learn something you thought you didn't know!

SWMBO mentioned that she would like a grandfather clock to fill the last remaining space in our living room. I don't really like any of the designs for which Carbatec sells plans, so I started looking through all my woodwork books - no luck. In desperation, I did a search on the forum, and - duh - there is a post from December 2004 by a bloke called Rocker giving a reference to articles on building a clock in Fine Woodworking # 171-2. Beautiful design. Now all I have to do is find $900 for the movement, face, and pendulum, and a few hundred more for the Tasmanian myrtle. :eek:

If you need a morticing jig there was a bloke here a while ago with a good one. I can't remember his name but I think he was in to rocking chairs :)

Why stop at $900 for the movement. From the sounds of things you will soon forget the cost anyway.

I'm with Grunt, that Rocker is a miscreant and an all round trouble maker, but you thought you might have known that.

Wot's even worse, is that his advice is always spot-on and I don't think I'll ever be able to prove otherwise.....

I reckon that making clock movements out of wood is rather like making hats out of wood - it can be done by someone who is prepared to spend a huge amount of time and effort, but the end result is inevitably unsatisfactory anyway.
