Hi All, I have a Fisher and Paykel e522b upside down fridge freezer which continually runs. Both fridge and freezer are cooling ok and both fans are also running. There is no build up of ice in both the fridge and freezer compartments. Would appreciate if someone can provide some insight into possible fault. Cheers
Hmmm, not the normal sort of first question a newbie to the Woodwork Forums asks!
Two possibilities here:
1) No ventilation. The condensor (the bit on the back of the fridge) absolutely must have access to cool air. The older style ones with the big black grids at the back need to be at least 2 inches away from the wall and should have about 6 inches between the top of the fridge and any overhead cupboards. Modern units with a smooth rear have a fan cooler which is more efficient but again must have an air path that doesn't allow the used air to recirculate. Check that the fan is running and that it's intake isn't choked with dust and crap.
2) Door seals perished. If the door seals are stuffed then warm air will get inside constantly. Usually though the evaporators clog up with ice. Test by putting masking tape around the door edges and leaving for a couple of hours.
The only two other things I can think of are a buggered thermostat or the gas has been released. The symptoms don't really point to the thermostat and the gas issue is almost unheard of with hermatically sealed units.

My guess would be a refrigerant leak.
If this is a recent problem. It is also likely that someone had at some stage left the freezer door open. You haven't said how old the fridge is. But the normal otherwise operation seems to have suggested that. If the frost free type, check the drip tray to see if it full of water. If it is not frost free, then it's time to defrost. I would monitor it for a few days to see if it settles itself first.
It's not giving occasional alarm beeps or a flashing fridge/freezer icon on the inside control panel?
