Hi I am making some kitchen doors to suit my existing kitchen. I have use a router and made the doors out of MDF for the stiles and rails and marine plywood for the panel in the centre. I will need to paint it white but I need to know what to use as a putty or filler in some of the joints and also if I will have to prime the MDF. Could anyone help me with these next steps in the process and tell me what products for a filler and a primer are the best choice

When it comes to things like MDF, I like to work backwards from whatever I will be finishing them in... which will typically be a solvent base enamel or acrylic (basically, the stuff used for car repairs), so I'd be using car spot putty (for holes)/spray primer-surfacer (for overall priming) and a topcoat.
Avoid water base primers on MDF as they can cause it to swell.

If you can spray the primer/undercoat on, then sand with wet/dry it will give a very nice finish:)
When I was in the process of building my kitchen we took our doors and exposed sides (MDF) to a guy that did automotive re-finishing and he used some magic gloss white. That was 10 years ago and been the subject of young children for the last 4 and it looks as good today as the day we got the doors back. No chipping or discolouration. Not entirely sure what he used but it is as tough as nails.
