Steam train

If anyone is interested in steam trains, there is a triple header going from Southern Cross to Seymour and return next Sunday 19th July. It is a long time since there has been a triple header of three "R" class which will be quite a sight to see.

If you're going to be following it- any chance of a few photos ? It's a bit far for me to go to see it.

They took R707 to Bacchus Marsh. There is a photo in this morning's Herald-Sun. I was not aware of it doing that trip, otherwise I would have been there as Bacchus Marsh is a good spot to watch when they turn it on the turntable.

Just to whet your appetite this photo was taken on Sat 4th July 2015. It is R761 going up the Glenroy bank on the way to Seymour, then across country to Echuca. For anyone who knows the area, it is crossing Devon Rd, Oak Park. This is one of the locos that will be used next Saturday.

As promised, here are some photos from yesterday. R707, R761 and R711 with 9 carriages. I believe it was clocked at 115kph. I saw it at Essendon and then set off to follow it but only made it to Seymour with 5 minutes to spare.

WOW Rob, that is one hell of a steam loco!!!!!

Those Victorian triple headers are a great sight too. My Dad loved steam locos of any size. When we were growing up he bought a large paged book of American locos doing what they do and always wanted to go on a trip to the US just to see some climbing the Rocky's. (No he never got there) His collection of steam locos is considered valuable now because he started taking photos as a young man when steam was the only mode of transport on rails.

Trains, the Old & the New.

Hi All & Chesand,
We were watching the Grandson play Football at Castlemaine, Vic. Sun.19th. & heard the old Whistle go , & there was an old black only Steam Train & Red Carriages, great to see.
Better still the old Train had turned around, heading back to Melb.I wood have thought, & again a surprise as the big modern train was almost running beside the older train.
I wasn't fast enough to get the camera out, so I missed a great photo.

That might have been the Goldfields Railway that runs regular trips between Castlemaine and Maldon on the weekends.
