Tiling and underlay Question

I am about to tile my kitchen and in order to bring the kitchen floor level with the flooboards in the rest of the house I need 12 mm thick cement sheets. My question is, can I use two lots of 6mm thick cement sheets or should I look for some 12 mm thick stuff?
