Nails aren't they way they used to be !

Hi everyone I have replaced my front door Jam and front door as the original door was 60MM extra in height so weird.
So new screen door and front door and today i went to fit architraves. I got some bull nose and nails and toddled off home.
Started with the first nail BOOM it was in. Started 2nd nail, BO..damn it bent it. Tried again and again multiple locations and nails.
I own an old housing commission house so I know the frame is hard wood, these damn nails won't go!
Any suggestions before i just screw the damn thing on ?
