I received this email, so I though I'd post it here.
Hope nobody minds.

Hmmm... My skeptical nature immediately sent me off to snopes.com to check if this was a scam. Apparently it's not an obvious scam, but note the following:

one click does not magically provide a mammogram to a needy woman — it takes 45,000 clicks, not just one. Averaging 58,000 clicks a day, The Breast Cancer Site provides funding for approximately <nobr>1.3 mammograms</nobr> a day. Sorry,

I foound out at lunch time that this is a US site. Nothing wrong with that per se, cancer doesn't care which nationality you are. :(

However, it wasn't my intention to spam the board, so I'll delete the thread if you like.

Waddaya reckon? Should I delete it or leave it?

Yes there are AUS sites - quite a few, but a small selection include:

http://www.nbcc.org.au/ This is the national breast cancer centre.

There are also state based cancer councils, for example here in QLD there is the QLD Cancer Fund (www.qldcancer.com.au) - can I just say now that we are re-jigging our website....but you can link to the Young Women's Network and peer support groups there with the ability to donate online at any time!

There is also groups dedicated to young women with breast cancer (who have practical issues like child care, fertility issues and returning to the workforce, which older women don't). If you want to track something very exciting that is coming up in conjunction with Pink Ribbon Day - look out for a group of 20 women on Harleys riding from Sydney to Brisbane from Oct 23 (www.changinggears.org). Look out for me!! We are hoping not only to raise awareness, but also kick some **** on the highway on 20 hogs!

I can't see any harm in leaving it. cancer is cancer, wherever. But supporting a local site would be good.

Don't you dare Craig, you said it cancer is indiscriminate and who cares who finds & uses the deterrent or cure, humanity benefits.

Sorry Lads, but this site is one of a number that are (in my opinion) explotitive. They are a commercial for-profit organisation that donates a small (tiny) amount of their profits to make them look good.

No, The Breast Cancer Site is not a nonprofit organization. Please visit our About Us page for more information.

There are six identical sites for different causes all run by the same people.

The thought is great and you should be cheered for making the effort to bring this site to our attention.

As someone that has lost a loved one to cancer, can I suggest you encourage your friends to donate to the Anti-Cancer Council of Australia or a similar reputable organisation such as the sites listed by dan_tom above.

Due to a request from a mate who's wife died of cancer I have for some years supported kids with cancer. They used to ring us once in awhile to buy raffle tickets but now we just donate $10.00 and they send out a receipt with a thank you letter.

The Cancer Councils in each state (ie: QLD Cancer Fund, NSW Cancer Council etc) are not for profit, non government agencies (ie: not funded by government or pharmaceutical companies). The next big event is Daffodil Day nationally on 19th August - pick up some flowers for a loved one and know that you are supporting the cure for cancer (which can come in the form of advocacy, research, community services, Helpline 13 11 20 etc).

There are a few "charities" out there that are FOR profit and do dubious research, so be sure that your money is going to the right place!
