Timber (pine) house - how can I preserve/treat it?

I know there are some other copper based pressure treatments out there, and of course there is the option of using types of timber naturally resistant to bugs, but suppose you were restricted to using pine - is there anything that you can paint/spray on it to allow you use it for weatherboards, decking, etc?
