Spray Guns!!!

Picked up these three guns to do some spraypainting. All appear to come from CIG.
The one on the left is the newest and is Dad's lp model. It has air but isn't spring any of the test water. The other two were granddads. In the middle is a GP Arnold DeVilbiss, it also has air but I have no idea how to open the pot. It may be stuck with a perished seal but I don't want to force it until I know more. The last one on the he left is an older LP it sprays but large droplets rather than a fine mist.

So today's plans of painting have been messing with the guns to no avail.

one in the middle undo the lock screw and flip the U-shaped away to open

the other two have a dowel either side internal of the pot and a slot in the lid a twist of the lid and base in opposite direction will open them.

They may have become stuck with age and dried out seal sticking underside of the cap they are replaceable.

Edited to add. One on right looks like it may have been used for spray putty .....not a fine mist but rather spatter

The one in the middle, I have flipped the u shaped wire off but it is stuck fast, i may have to look at ways to pry it apart.

The one on the left does indeed spatter.




The other thing I found was the one on the left has a small hole in the underside of the lid and this blows air in, the brass tube then sucks the fluid up.

The one on the right which I couldn't get to spray, seem to have no hole and blows bubbles with the brass tube. So I have no idea how that one should work.

Try getting hold of gun cleaner thinners from an auto paint shop and put the gun/guns in a pot of the thinners over night then try taking them apart.Maybe even longer
Gun thinners is a little bit stronger than ordinary thinners
It's was body shops use to clean guns between jobs
Don't try prying the lids up with tools till the last resort

WHS above, acitone is also a good cleaner but the seals will need to be replaced as they will be dry and stiff my original one is leather but most these days are synthetic.

I'd be sourcing pdf of parts manual for each gun, set yourself up to remove and replace after cleaning each and every part or each gun separate. take your time photograph if need be so you now which part goes where. These guns are worth it parts are still available for them.

sound like the seals have stuck fast a case of cleaning the gun and closing the lid before they dry completely or leaving paint or thinners in. I hope thats not the case.:o

The holes are in the lid so as to suck air in when using the gun they need to be kept clean and clear. When in use the holes should always be towards the rear under the handle of the gun :B paint runs out if full and tipped forward to spray.
