Sanding structural timber beams
Hi there,
We've just bought our first house which has thick Oregon structural timber beams stained in mission brown - thanks to it's late 60's/early 70's origins.
We want to sand the beams back and stain but are having a lot of trouble finding the tool for the job.
So far we have used a planer (great, but won't get anywhere near the upper edge where beams join the ceiling, or corners), mouse, orbital and belt sanders with 40 grit sandpaper - none of the sanders will do the job (40 grit not bad after a long time, but not sustainable for the amount we need to do).
We don't want to use paint strippers for environmental reasons.
We are happy to put the time and effort in - it's just a matter of finding a tool that will do this - can anyone help?
Pictures attached - one shows beam after about 10 seconds with the planer, which is great but won't reach edges or corners.
