Lacquer through a drum with tap

Hi. Has anyone tried dispensing lacquer through one of those drums with the bungs and taps at the bottom. I'm meaning here nitro lacquer or pre-cat lacquer.

What this is about is that currently I get the lacquer out of a drum using a ladel - a drippy, messy pita. Also lots of opportunity for dust and insects to get into the open drum. However I dispense the thinner through a drum with a tap, which is neat and clean. Has anyone done the same with lacquer, or will it simply clog up the tap. I notice its never sold in drums with bungs - not sure why though.

I do this with polyester resin for fibre glassing. I put the resin in a heavy plastic 20L container, purchase a tubeless valve from the servo, drill an appropriate hole in the screw top lid, insert valve. Put lid on firmly. With your compressor put a little bit of pressure in the container, this helps dispense resin, which is pretty thick. Easy to measure into jug and very clean. Be careful of your pressure. You may need to add more pressure as you use resin. When you finish let pressure out of the valve. Take the tap out and clean it after turning container on its back. Put bung in container. Sweeeet, everything clean and tidy and air tight. Hope this helps a bit. :2tsup: PAUL.

Arron,
We always had taps on precat lacquers, no problem. After a while you will have a bit of a build up, but snaps out of the tap.

Just trying to save myself a trip out to he place that sells drums if it wasnt going to work out.

Hi Arron,
As xpro said I been doing it for 30+years. Pre mix lacquer and thinners ready to go, For a full days spraying.
