I am looking to find a supplier of water based lacquer in Australia. The one I have seen good reports about is called EM6000 from a US company called Target Coatings (http://www.targetcoatings.com/produc...n-lacquer.html). There is also another one called KTM9 that is sold by LMI in the US.
Does any one know where such products can be bought in Australia and better yet in Brisbane? :?

I Have not heard of the US based company you have mentioned so I can't offer a comment on their quality. However, If you head to your local Mitre 10 store you'll be able to pick up CABOT'S cabothane clear (waterbased, available in satin and gloss finish) for interior/exterior timber furniture,windows, doors and trim. If you're looking for an exterior lacquer solution, for flooring you may have to head down the decking oil route.

Yeah, I'd love to get hold of some QUALITY water based lacquer too - but I dont think you can buy any in Australia. i know a lot of people are wanting it so maybe its a business oportunity for someone.Quote:

Think you'll find most paint manufacturers now make a clear water based finish.
Google - Haymes Paints, Wattyle, Dulux, etc, etc.
Did tests with a number of them some 25 years ago, and at the time the best thing I could say about water based polyurethane was: "It does have one good characteristic.... The brushes wash out in water."
These water based finishes may well have changed quite dramatically over the last 25 years and one would really hope so as it is entirely possible that the whole finishing industry will have to go down the water based path some time in the not too distant future. Especially since most mineral turpentine, white spirits, stoddards solution, etc has been labled as carcinogenic and mutagenic unless it meets certain standards and as a rule most doesn't.

behlens clear wb satin instrument lacquer is available from guitaraust
you will find the interior wb cabots etc to be very inferior to the em6000 em7000
if you want to buff to decent gloss
used a few cans of em6000 and it is painful to use but yields a very tough high gloss clear
