what are these for ??

Hi all,

Sorry in advance if this in the wrong thread, however no idea where else it could go, also apologies for what is going to seem like a dumb question.

What do these vents do ?? Do i need them or can i take them out ?

I want to remove them because i assume a lot of heat escapes out them

The house is a timber framed weatherboard if that makes any difference.
