Strengthening a Gable End Stud under Ridge Board?
Hi Everyone!
We're selling our house, and the buyers have completed a building inspection that revealed a single instance of termite damage in the roof. The inspector has recommended that the affected timber be strengthened as it is structural. It's the center gable-end stud directly under the ridge board and sits atop the external wall top-plate.
Question is this: how would one normally strengthen this stud? If this was a vertical stud running from rafter to top-plate, no problem, laminate another stud beside it. But since this supports the ridge board at the gable-end, a stud beside it would sit upon the top-plate but under the rafter, not the ridge. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
