Guys and Gals,
I am a newbie here and have been reading a lot of posts on this BB. I keep coming across references to foilies. I have tried doing a search for them, but just find references to them but not an description of what they are.
Could someone please put me out of my misery.

Well join the club, you should have also asked about pancakes while you were at it.
A foilie is a reference to foil in a hat to prevent aliens manipulating your mind. There is a link to some site but if you ask me it seems as though the foil doesn't work, or many here aren't wearing their hats..........now for pancakes
We also use foilies to recognise fellow woodworkers in public. If you are a real woodworker you should wear you foilie when ever you are out in public. People will give you the respect that you deserve.

A foilie is a "mind protector " much favoured as hatwear of woodworkers of a certain ilk who happen to live in Victoria Australia.
They believe that it will protect their thoughts being stolen by aliens. Do they REALLY believe this? I dunno, I live in NSW.
Now as far as pancakes are concerned; well basically, if somebody posts a stupid or extremely boring post, well then it's considered a pancake.
As to why it's considered a pancake, well that'll have to keep for another day.
