Supporting a Hanging Beam

Hi Everybody, first post here so g'day!

I have a small 2 foot wall which i would like to remove as a kitchen reno is about to be started.

The wall in question is the shot wall in the pic below (the other wall with kite is insignificant).

The issue i have is that the wall is supporting (indirectly) a hanging beam. The hanging beam is running in the same direction as the small wall. The red outline in this pic is where the wall is supporting a single joist which is in turn is supporting the hanging beam. :2tsup:

Although a single hanging beam is used, if i were to remove the small wall the ultimate span would be 6.3M. The hanging beam in size is only 290x32mm, it looks like it's jarrah.

Looking at the various span tables this distance is far to long for the single span. The ceiling joist span is about 2.8M

As replacing this 6.5m single beam would be difficult, what are my options.

Can I otherwise support the hanging beam.

Can i 'hang' it from the rafters?

Could I run a small steel I-beam across the 2.8m under the hanging beam to support it? Hopefully the same height as the joists? With a plate to give larger supported length of the beam.

Any other options? Perhaps a column into the room below instead? (don't really want to do this)

Anyway, any thoughts or direction would be really appreciated.
