oil for post box
I have just finished painting a postbox with a Watyll exterior clear gloss finish and I was thinking about putting some type of oil for extra waterproofing or to get the water to run off more easily. Would this be a waste of time? and if it wasn't what sort of oil would be good over a clear gloss finish?
Thanks

I'd say yes, definitely a waste of time

If anything, wax but I would not bother. I used spar varnish on mine a couple of years and it still looks good.

Oil first, varnish second it doesn'y work in reverse sadly.

Thanks guys, I think that about sums it up - oiling would be a waste of time

Any chance of a pic ?
I'll show you mine if you show me yours............ :p

Oh hell, why not? even though it is a fairly boring box, it'll take a while to organise though. Stay tuned

I told you it would take a while, no digital camera and a long time to finish that role of film.
Here's my postbox. I originally had just a flat lid but soon discovered that water would pool and then with the sun pouring down, the estapol pretty much failed. So I sanded it back, put 7 coats of estapol and tilted the lid a bit. So far it has worked but I'll see if it makes it through this summer.
Now lets see yours.....
