Greetings from Tony in Melbourne

Hello to All,
My name is Tony. I'm in Preston, Melbourne, and have always wanted to make things out of wood. I started off with a Triton workbench and a few hand/power tools , but i finally splurged on a Lurem c260 combination thicknesser/saw- which I found out previously belonged to a forum member.( by the way if anybody can help me out with an ENGLISH user manual that would be great!)
I also bought a 1 hp dust extractor and am looking forward to picking up a drill press from Greg Q this weekend. I think a bandsaw might be handy, so I'm keeping an eye out on the Marketplace to see if I can get something thats not too expensive.
I recently built a wood fired pizza oven and used to burn a fair bit of wood, but since my renewed interest in woodworking, I look at every piece of timber differently and save more than I burn!
My first project with the new tools is a workbench using some old roofing hardwood which I will try and post some WIP pics of asap.
I look forward to joining in to your discussions and especially learning from what I see to be invaluable knowledge from the group.

Is there a function of the combo you are trying to figure out , or do you just want the manual for future reference?

hi Joez,
the Lurem machine is this one( https://www.woodworkforums.com/f221/l...e-240v-155515/ ) I think I've worked out most of the machine, but i'm sure there are some fine adjustments or even uses I'm not aware of. The machine has a table saw (which I'm hoping to try to also use instead of a compound mitre saw?) it has a thicknesser and planer, a spindle moulder which I need to get some knives or cutters for (I'm not sure where to start for that)and on the side of the planer there is also drill/chuck with a moveable bench(picture 5) which I can use with a sanding disc , but i'm trying to work out if i can use it with a hollow chisel somehow to do mortises? Lastly, there must be some way of catching the sawdust from the tablesaw with the dust collecter attachment (also used for thicknesser & planer)

I had a look on the Web at Users Manuals for your Lumex beastie and could only find French versions. Maybe you could find one around Melbourne somewhere and either see if they have a manual in English you could photocopy, or maybe they can show you around the beast.

thanks for the offer!
I had a quick look online as well, and it looks like there are quite a few places to get the French manuals(no help to me unfortunately), but not a bad idea to see if anybody else has the same machine and get some tips/advice. Is there somewhere i can post my request on this forum to get more people to see it?

You are sure serious about getting started with those purchases.
Anyways, You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you keep showing off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.

I use cmt bits in my horizontal morticer, they work well : CMT 6 Piece Slot Mortising Straight Bit Sets : CARBA-TEC


You might be able to use something like google to translate the french manual somehow, it wont be perfect but better than nothing. If you post a link I'll have a crack at it.

As far as using the combination machine, you will find most are very similar in operation and design, try searching for other combination machines of a similar age. ie Watch Laguna Tools X31 5 Function Combination Machine | Laguna Tools Episodes | Videos | Blip

I have a minimax CU300 smart combination machine and live in preston as well :D

thanks for the tips, i just checked out the link to the Laguna machine, Watch Laguna Tools X31 5 Function Combination Machine | Laguna Tools Episodes | Videos | Blip and it's almost identical to mine , so very helpful instructions. The only thing now is to make some time away from the family to use it!( if they let me!.... I have 2 daughters 11 & 6 yo).
