Modifying structural wall. Looking for advice.

Hello,

I have a question about opening up my garage wall a bit. ( We are converting into a suite)

The vacuum pipe would stay where it is, I'll build a box around it.
I have up to 15" from the ceiling for the new beam.
If necessary I could keep a support in the middle where the counter turns into a doorway, but I don't really want to.

The entire wall is about 18' long, and I'd like to open up about 9' or 10'.

I was thinking to support the existing beam with ceiling jacks while I take out the doorframe and the 4 studs, install a 2"x12" beam with new supports on one side of the wall, then move the jacks under the 2"x12" and install a second one alongside it.

Please let me know if this is an awful idea and I should stop before I kill myself.
