Gday,
Does anyone know if there have been any serious issues converting a BA (Ford) ute to dual fuel?
From what i can gather, since Ford now make a LPG only model the conversions havent been as successful as in previous models.Apparently they have a fair whack of trouble with the valves etc every 30-40000 kms.
Does anyone know of somebody who has had a BA converted to dual fuel and what they reckon.
I am very interested to hear their point of veiw.

Okay, I'm being silly, and while I can see the advantages I'm not sure why you want to go the trouble of fitting Nitrous Oxide to your ute :D

Sister-in-law has a BA Futura with "dual fuel"...she has not had any issues but has only had the car for about a year (bought it 2nd hand)
My Missus (Jane) has banned Fords from our premises - may have something to do with the fact that every time she gets in one it has body roll like a tractor, it falls apart or it almost kills her.... mind you when I was a younger puppy I had a TD cortina... man did that scream along... mind you lotsa bits fell off as it screamed.....
I have LPG on my Landcrusher and blew the crap out of the valve seats, replaced them with stellite (sp) and oil injection and no problems since.
Upper cylinder lubrication is the big problem I believe.
Morey injection systen is about $75 and the valve job, all 24 of them and 48 shims for tappets $2k.
I was assuming Steve knew about LPG and was just fussed about specific probs with the BA. Personally, I fitted LPG to a Nissan Camper van years ago and drove the old girl into the ground (wore out the motor that I replaced the original with coz I wore out the original). Owned a Valiant wagon for five years with LPG without a drama. Owned a Toyota Tarago with LPG without a hassle either, well, not from the LPG - that motor had lots of hassles but they were there whether you were running LPG or petrol. It's got its place. I don't know about the economics now, especially when it comes to fitting it to an existing car.
Go talk to a few LPG fitters Steve. Sure, you'll get ******** answers from some, but you'll also get good answers from others and sooner or later, you'll start to be able to pick one from the other.
I'd be surprised if the valves on a modern motor are going to cause trouble due to LPG though, after all, all modern cars are designed to run on unleaded petrol which, in my limited understanding of the subject, puts the same stresses on the valves. Another thought is this - if you love your BA ute, fit the gas, run it till it breaks, then repair it with parts that aren't going to break.

It is the same with everything---Get it done right the first time, and you won't have any problems.Get quotes and look at what is being done and the prices. Then make your decision.You still have to run petrol some of the time to prevent the injectors guming up(20L per 3000 km)and the Morey's upper cylinder lube kit is a great idea if you want to keep the car for a long time.
