Questions I Have As I Get Older

Good Morning All...

As I slowly get farther into ‘middle age’ (I'm 61) I find myself wondering about some things while I’m working in my shop.

1. Why does stuff always have to fall on the floor?
2. Why can’t I find things when they’re right in front of me?
3. Why does the very last piece of oak that I have looks good for what I need but is always just a bit short?
4. Why do a piece’s measurements make complete sense, the cut is right on, and it still doesn’t work?
Maybe I’ll figure these things out, maybe not. Nothing that a hot cup of coffee and a smoke of my pipe can’t make worse! :D

...yes, it does happen, sometimes frequently.
I then realize that my glasses are on my head and not in front of my eyes.:rolleyes:
I'm still getting used to wearing glasses in the shed, as I don't wear them normally , yet.

Big philosophical questions there. Newton had a go when he saw the apple fall and Einstein carried on. On a more accessible level, Sod came up with the answer - because things are like that - and called it Sod's Law.:D

I am finding my fingers don't seem to get the message from the brain and so they do some awkward way instead of the purposeful stream line command the brain would have given it. Also....when I am working on something small that has to have another thing done to it, I put down the first piece to get that other piece then can't find the first piece. Yep right under my nose, but I couldn't see it.
Why is the floor so far down and even further coming up?
Is this the old age that we hear about?

Question 2.... open your eyes, there is a whole new world out there
Question 3... your too impatient, wait for the tree to grow a little bit more.
Question 4... The instructions are sure to be in "chinglish" !

One technique that I've developed for finding what I need in the shop is to start cleaning up. I'll either find what I'm looking for or it's gone for good! :wink:

That works for me usually in the following roundabout manner.

I start job A and at some point need to use tool/fixing x
Cannot find x so start on Job B and at some point need to use tool/fixing y
Cannot find y so start on Job C and at some point need to use tool/fixing z
Cannot find z, so time to stop to clean up.
During clean up x and so continue job A

When things go wrong or lost or don't work, adopt a positive attitude....... I'm positive its wrong / lost / doesn't work :D
