Raising a House for dummies

Hi Guys,

Firstly, love the site, I have followed many a thread before signing up.

I was hoping to get a little advice, I have a home in Carina Brisbane which I am looking at raising and building in, I have a budget of 100k and have approached a couple of companies to see if they would manage the project which of course got me thinking that their fee will eat into my budget!! I just wanted to know if someone with no experience in raising a house can mange this on their own and save some dollars.

My other question I wanted to ask the guru's on here is if someone can recommend a drafty who can help with the plans, foundation design, structual engineering etc. I have received one quote for 3.5k not sure if this is a good price.
