If it wasn't for the rego plate I would guess it comes from Durban in South Africa, Driver, state of body reshaping, rust and unroadworthyness fits a discription of a Durban car, but it is definately from Africa!

, did you get an Aussie compliance plate on importing it?

There's lots like that in the Northern Territory! Although I think the driver is from a little further north. Reminds me of a Bangkok Taxi!
